Are you open to seeing things differently?

Tap into what already exists.

” Astonishing! Everything is intelligent.” - Pythagoras

As a professional in the financial crime compliance industry, you’re tasked with the need to evolve the financial crime compliance industry in a way that cultivates both compliance and innovation; deliver an ever evolving operating model supporting greater efficiency and the business strategy; to collaborate with partners in a global ecosystem – all in pursuit of mitigating/combating the expanding tentacles of financial crime.

A plethora of strategic digital and operational solutions is emerging/is being developed to solve for the effective disruption of financial crime, raising the question:

What important investments will you need to make?

The driver/catalyst of this success is YOU and your team. The engine enabling all of this are people like you, and your teams. So, I’ll ask the question again.  What important investments will you need to make?

Sea Changes Coaches offers coaching and consulting services focused on YOU. It all starts with you

Why engage/hire a coach?

“The financial-services compliance leader at times faces strategic risk management challenges that seem insoluble. The financial crime risk-management landscape is particularly prone to perfect storms.  The threats of money laundering, terrorism financing, violations of economic sanctions, bribery and corruption, and fraud are ever evolving and move across borders as fast as the institutions’ technology executes transactions. Even “business as usual” environments generate ambiguity for the compliance leader charged with supporting the business strategy, building a resilient team, and promoting a culture of proper conduct across the enterprise.

Clearly, global financial crime compliance leaders face many questions.  What are the critical drivers within the organization?  How and where do I invest the right time, attention, and resources to face the challenges? How do I generate a culture of trust, learning and strategic improvement when fighting brush fires demands so much time?  How do I keep the machine running and pay attention to design, deliver and sustain evolving, smarter operational models?  Where do I begin?  How do I begin?

Caroline coached me toward solutions to these and many other seemingly intractable questions by challenging me, in the first instance, to begin with me.  Caroline understood how to operationalize a core lesson of leadership: that solutions to complex, wicked problems begin with – and within – the leader.

Armed with a native curiosity, Caroline worked along multiple parallel tracks.  She formed a deep understanding of the issues and demands of the business, analyzed team dynamics to assess the trajectory of the organization we were developing.  At the same time, she assessed my own modes of perception, my priorities, and my problem-solving approaches. She continuously challenged me with expertly prepared, pragmatic questions that channeled me to focus on my own self-awareness, my communications approach and my biases in light of the organization’s trajectory.

The resulting clarity helped me see what “is” and what could and should be.  Paths across complex grounds emerged and led us to a better place”.

When faced with a challenging situation, something new is being asked of us.

What will we need to do differently?  How will we need to be different?

It is time to invest in and update your leadership “software”.

To expand your capacity to disrupt financial crime

Solution: Tap into your Entrepreneurial Qualities. Intentionally cultivate this in your organization.

Tip. Observe entrepreneurial qualities like initiative; problem solving; opportunity recognition; capture examples and stories to bring to life and recognize.  To succeed, leverage every person in your organization.

Consider: What impact does your leadership have on the people you interact with? How can you be more intentional about capturing, nurturing, and recognizing entrepreneurial qualities that instill ownership?

To create and foster a sustainable culture that supports ownership, agency, powerful stakeholder engagement.

Solution: Tap into Trust and Safety.

Acknowledge the elephant in the room. Fear. Fear has a natural and important place in any environment. It has its healthy attributes, alerting us to what needs attention, what action needs to be taken, and what we need to align on. It is misplaced fear that can choke effectiveness.

Tip: To engage the whole ecosystem to disrupt financial crime, there is a place for both compliance and agency. Want to cultivate both.  Knowing when to comply and on what, and when to speak up, to challenge the status quo with intent on bringing new intelligence/perspective to the table.

Consider: How can you be more intentional about identifying fear? How can you actively instill agency and compliance/alignment?

To engage with and earn the trust of an expansive spectrum of stakeholders.

Relationships are about getting things done. When things are clear-cut, there is a natural flow in conversations around coordinating what needs to be done.  It is when situations get murky, where there are competing agendas, different viewpoints, and priorities, that efforts to be effective can be derailed.

Solution:Tap into Relational Skills. Invest in and upgrade relational skills

Tip: To expand problem solving skills and recognize otherwise overlooked opportunities/solutions, invest in upgrading your relational skills. For example, support listening to a broad range of perspectives. Different perspectives help to widen the aperture around understanding what is true, and expands thinking around solutioning. Listen for the no’s and challenges and mine for clues

Consider: How comfortable are you with being uncomfortable? To what extent are you able to handle healthy, respectful confrontation without reacting instinctively? What % of your conversations are transactional versus relational?
